January Letter

Although January is still pretty cold and miserable at a time in New York,  I cannot stop thinking about the spring color palette for Pigeon Dynamite 's collections. I always love the muted color palette, like beige, white, light gray kind of milky toned colors. But spring makes me love more colors like pastel colors. There are quite a few movies that I love for its color palette and great for inspiration. One of them is Sofia Coppola's Marie Antoinette .  The decadence of Rococo style always inspires me. And this movie was full of great colors that I love. Sofia Coppola's world always has this faded color that I love. And speaking of faded color, the most recent movie that I liked for that matter, (and also the movie itself) was Spike Jonze's her . (funny how they used to be married and were my favorite coolest couple. Well, I still love both and Sofia is now married to Thomas Mars so...damn Sofia.) The whole movie is like shot w

Wonder January

After Christmas decorations and lights are gone, it's a bit sad walking around the city in winter. In Japan, we celebrate new years for a long holiday week or two, so there are still full of holiday decorations in the city after new years. Winters in North East is just bit too long, and harsh without any of the illuminations. I just wish they could keep these at least until March in NYC even though I kinda think it may be sorta lame..   This was a morning some years ago.. The only time winter is beautiful is when there's a clear sky. The gloomy, overcast gray sky really makes the winter feel more depressing but when there's the sun, it makes such a big difference.  I mean, my friends were all surprised when I decided to move to NY from San Diego. I did not know that I would lose the sun. But it is New York. I love it regardless.  My mom asks me still to this day why I am still in New York...I only can say if it wasn't New York, I would have left

Human Power

Early morning of January 17th, 1995, that was when I was woken up by a huge earthquake that struck Hanshin, south west part of Hyogo prefecture through Osaka, and Kyoto Japan. I was sleeping in a room with a big Butsudan, a Japanese wooden shrine like cabinet, next to me. When the earthquake started, the cabinet doors were opened so everything that was inside of Butsudan started falling over my futon, underneath of which I was sleeping. Luckily the Butsudan itself did not fall on me, which could have and if it had, I would have been seriously injured. My parents immediately came out of the bedroom and made sure everyone was okay.  It was still dark outside, and it was cold January.  The earthquake was measured Mj7.3 The focus was from northern part of Awaji island, near the big city of Kobe in Hyogo prefecture. I was in elementary school, and I remember going to school that day just like a normal day except the street was quiet and there were broken glass, store signs and

New Year's Resolution?

Hi everyone, I hope people of Northeast and Midwest survived this beyond freezing week.. Global warming is a serious deal, people. It may sound odd but it's hard to believe the year of 2012 was over..which is now 2 years ago... I cannot believe we already had a full year of 2013. How weird but it is true as many people told me after 25, it only goes so much faster. I don't remember much of my teenager time since I also had no idea what I was doing. Early 20s, I was coming back to more conscious and real mind self.  Mid 20s was more of digging deeper and now I'm late 20s I already feel that I entered my 30s which I don't really care if I am or not really.  The number started becoming more and more meaningless after 25. (At the same time, I do not believe that saying 30 is the new 20 either. That's lame. 30 is 30..and fabulous.) Life does get more exciting and more enjoyable as you get older, or I mostly think and hope it does. Though life also

H A P P Y N E W Y E A R !! This is the first post in 2 0 1 4 !! I would like to let everyone know my 2013 was awesome because of your support, so thank you for that. I think back now and am really glad that I made the best decision last year that I stopped thinking about whether I should start my own brand or not and just did. I've never felt so rewarded when I heard from customers telling me how much they love the item they ordered. My grandfather used to say "those who do not work shall not eat" and my sister and I used to say jokingly "then we'd be dead from the hunger by now." Last year, I think I've finally understood the meaning of his saying. It is more than what it just sounds; I think the true meaning of that saying is what you do should be what you love so that it is more rewarding, appreciative and fulfilling your life.  And I know that 2014 is going to be even more amazing! Pigeon Dynamite wishes you all healthy, loving
